Carl Pistorius, the older brother of South African track star Oscar Pistorius, was “badly hurt” in a car accident Friday evening and remains in intensive care, the family said Saturday. Carl Pistorius was driving home from a business trip when the head-on collision occurred. His family said he was “out of danger” on Saturday after being transferred to a hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, following the crash. Carl Pistorius was acquitted last year of homicide and reckless driving charges involving a deadly car accident in 2008, according to the Times of South Africa.

Oscar Pistorius, meanwhile, remains free on bail following murder charges in the death of his girlfriend and model Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013. The state filed its closing arguments Wednesday in the murder trial and the court will reconvene Thursday. The dramatic case has captivated South Africa and the trial has proven costly for the Olympic athlete and Paralympic gold medalist. Oscar Pistorius sold his home, which was the site of Steenkamp’s death, to cover the cost of his court fees, the Times reported.
