Olympic Track Worker Stable After Bobsled Crash, Organizers Say

SOCHI, Russia — The Olympic worker who was struck by a bobsled rushing down the track was conscious and in stable condition Friday after successful surgery, Sochi 2014 organizers said.

The organizers said they were still looking into what went wrong at the Sanki Sliding Center on Thursday. The worker was struck by a forerunning sled, which checks track conditions before races. He suffered two broken legs.

Olympic organizers said a warning sounded, according to protocol, alerting people near the track that a sled was coming down the course.
