U.N. Secretary Ban Ki-moon said Saturday he is "gravely concerned" about Russia's approved proposal to send troops into Ukraine and will speak with President Putin about his decision.
"The Secretary-General reiterates his call for the full respect for and preservation of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," Ban's spokesman said in a statement Saturday.
Ban's called for "restoration of calm" and "direct dialogue" between Russia, Ukraine and other involved countries.
Ban's said he was en route to Europe, but asked the Deputy Secretary General of the U.N. to attend the 2 p.m. Security Council Meeting.
