Now that you can get a smart bike lock for your smart bike, why not have a smart tail light as well? The BTrack Safe Light , from Italian accessory maker Sartori bikes, keeps you visible at night like any other rear light — but hidden inside it is a GPS system and a SIM card that reports its position to an app on your Android (and soon iOS) phone at all times. That's handy for tracking your rides, of course, but if your bike were to be stolen you would also be able to follow it to the thieves' lair — after you call the police. Hopefully you won't be far behind, since the Safe Light will also sense suspicious vibrations and alert you if your bike suddenly moves.
Of course, you'll have to make sure its SIM card is provisioned with text messages or data so it can stay connected. And at €106, or about $120 (plus quite a bit for international shipping), this light is definitely a bit more expensive than your average rear blinker. But if you're serious about keeping your expensive bike safe, this might be a worthy investment — just be sure not to skimp on the lock, either.
