Tuesday brought interesting news from IKEA: they're getting into the TV game with a simple, all-in-one TV and media player, with Blu-ray and speakers built right in. HD Guru has collected a few more details about the set.
While pricing is still up in the air, specs have come to light. HD Guru reports that the UPPLEVA will come in sizes from 24 to 46 inches, probably with 32- and 42-inch sets filling out the middle range. The LED-backlit LCD panels are from TCL, a major Chinese manufacturer, but possibly not as reliably high-quality as those from Samsung or Sony. (Only videophiles may be able to see the difference, perhaps, though reliability may be a concern on these cheaper sets.)
As expected, all sizes will be 1080p and will come in black or white, and cabinets (but not the TVs themselves) will be available with wood finishes. The first models will ship in Europe later this year, but the U.S. will have to wait until April of 2013 to clap their eyes on one. More information, like pricing and service compatibility (things like Netflix Streaming and Hulu Plus) will be forthcoming closer to the launch date, but in the meantime, check out HD Guru's post for more pictures and further details.
