When a reclusive, highly polarizing international figure of cyber-mystery joins Twitter, you can bet he's going to get a lot of followers. But you'd think that person would know to turn off email notifications — something Edward Snowden said he failed to do, much to his chagrin.
The former NSA contractor joined Twitter on Tuesday and racked up more than 1 million followers in 24 hours.
When contacted Thursday for confirmation of Snowden's email avalanche, Twitter told NBC News that it does not comment on individual accounts. And the service already sends out millions of emails every day for others who want notifications of retweets and new followers, so what's a million more?
