Need a plumber or electrician? You could check the Yellow Pages or look one up online, but Facebook thinks that's too much work — why not just message a professional and get a quote back in minutes? The social network is teaming up with Pro.com, a site for finding and hiring home improvement workers, which just Wednesday launched its own "Text-a-Pro" service for instant quotes.
All you need to do is send a description of your project to Pro.com on Facebook Messenger and you should get a response back in a jiffy. You can text them too, at 776-776, but it'll be harder to send stickers and GIFs. Even deeper integration is planned, according to the Pro.com blog post, perhaps indicating payment and other options coming to Facebook's platform.
Ever since splitting off messaging from its main app, Facebook has continually added functions to Messenger, like money transfers, customer service, and a personal assistant named M. The social network itself has also courted business interests, and there have been tests of a "buy button."
Right now, Text-a-Pro and its Messenger equivalent are only available in Seattle and San Francisco, but soon it will be anywhere Pro.com services.
