Facebook's "On This Day" feature brings up old posts from the past. It can be a lot of fun, except when it reminds you of all the good times you had with an ex, estranged family member or deceased friend.
Now Facebook is letting users block out those unpleasant memories. All users need to do is visit the "On This Day" page, where, by the way, people can go anytime to look at what they posted on that date in the past.
Then hit "Preferences" in the upper right corner and add any people or dates you never want to see brought up by "On This Day" again.
Facebook has been criticized in the past for surfacing bad memories, especially with its "Year in Review" feature.
The company launched "On This Day" in March of this year. Its new filters come just in time for the holidays, perfect for blocking photos of that time you went to visit your ex's family for Thanksgiving.
"Your memories are yours, so you should control which ones you see in On This Day," Facebook wrote on the feature's page. "Use these filters to help make sure we show you memories from On This Day in a way that's meaningful for you."
