Skype has just announced the Skype Video and Voice app for the PlayStation Vita. The app is scheduled to arrive at some point on Tuesday.
While the Skype Video and Voice app will be available in the PlayStation Store for users in North America on Tuesday, folks in Europe and Asia will have to wait until Wednesday to download their region-specific versions.
With the app, Skype users can enjoy free calls to Skype numbers as well as paid calls to regular numbers over Wi-Fi or 3G.
Here we have a demonstration of the app courtesy of noted pro-gamer, Fatal1ty:
One of the main features of the Skype app is its use of the Vita's front- and rear-facing cameras for video calls. The app also takes advantage of the device's touch screen and sports a dedicated interface, reminiscent of the acclaimed Twitter Vita app.
The app can also remain dormant in the background while you're playing a game. Once a call is received, you can can suspend the game and receive the incoming communiqué. You can read more about this, and other features, on Skype's website.
