Launches of million-selling high-tech devices rarely go perfectly, and Microsoft's Xbox One is no exception: The company has confirmed reports that some consoles suffer from a faulty disc drive. If you're one of the unfortunate few, contact customer service to get a replacement unit sent out.
Reports of drives making worrisome noises surfaced almost instantly upon the Xbox One's launch. Upon inserting a disc into the drive, a clicking or knocking noise would be heard, and the disc would not be read.

It should be very clear, then, whether you have a faulty unit or not. Microsoft, for its part, offered the following statement to CNBC on Monday:
The issue is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers. We’re working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange program. Rest assured, we are taking care of our customers.
Xbox One isn't the only next-generation gaming console with launch woes. A number of PlayStation 4 owners have been confronted with what has been termed the "blue light of death," for which there is no known solution.
Considering both consoles sold a million units on their first day of availability and these are the first to come off the assembly line, it's to be expected that there would be a few jitters — in the Xbox One's case, literally. Anyone affected is advised to contact customer service, and a replacement should be speedily dispatched.
