Protesters gathered in Memphis, New York and other cities after officials released four videos of the fatal beating.

Nichols was hospitalized in critical condition after the encounter and died three days later. 

One retired police officer called the beating in Memphis "a street crime that occurred among people in uniform.” Another said the incident should not have escalated beyond the traffic stop.

The district attorney said the incident, in which a 5-year-old girl, a 3-old-boy and a 8-month-old boy were killed, was "an unimaginable, senseless tragedy."

There is no information on the suspects at this time, according to police.

Gov. Spencer Cox, who vetoed a restriction on transgender student athletes last year, said he has no plans to veto this new bill, which the Legislature passed Friday.

The 29-year-old Black man who died after an encounter with Memphis police always had encouraging words for others, his friends and family said.

State Patrol officials said snow, ice and whiteout conditions were factors in the crash.

Footage shows Nichols calling for his mom as officers violently arrested him. He was just 80 yards away from her house, she said.
