29-foot whale shark washes ashore in Ecuador

A massive female whale shark was found early Monday by fishermen in Santa Marianita, Ecuador, after it was caught in shallow waters. Despite the effort of dozens of volunteers, who used two police rescue boats and a small tractor as well as many ropes and pulleys, the 6-hour effort failed and the 29-foot whale shark died, according to marine biologist Tanya Layman, who took the photos and videos from the scene.
