Fed hikes interest rate to combat inflation, but WH downplays signs of recession

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell announced an increase to interest rates by 0.75% as an additional measure to combat inflation. Powell said he does not believe the U.S economy is in a recession, “there are just too many areas of the economy that are performing too well.” Gross domestic product figures will additionally be released on Thursday.July 27, 2022
