The Vatican held its annual swearing in ceremony for the Pontifical Swiss Guard in the city state’s Belvedere Court. The ceremony is usually held on May 6th to commemorate the Sack of Rome in 1527, when members of the Swiss Guard gave their lives in defense of the Church and Pope.
