Town’s trust broken after treasurer allegedly steals millions

The town of Dixon, Illinois is an old-fashioned Midwestern town where a handshake means more than a contract. For decades, the town put their trust in Treasurer Comptroller Rita Crundwell. Crundwell was arrested earlier this year by federal authorities and accused of stealing $53 million from the town to support her successful quarter horse breeding operation.
