On Brian O'Neill's work at the IIHS

Insurance Institute president Brian O’Neill will soon be retiring. Below are a few comments on his contribution to automotive safety:

Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers
"Over his long and distinguished career Brian has been a tireless advocate for advancing highway and automotive safety. The industry shares his mission and will miss working with him. We will continue our commitment to providing consumers with ever safer vehicles."

Michael Cammisa, Director of Safety for Association of International Automobile Manufacturers
"Association of International Automobile Manufacturers salutes Brian's contribution to automotive safety and research through his work at the Insurance Institute and we share his commitment to further improvements in vehicle safety."

William Clay Ford, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Ford Motor Company
"Brian O'Neill has always been a true safety champion, setting a high mark to drive automotive safety. We applaud his efforts and wish him the very best in the future."

Bob Lange, Top Safety Official for General Motors
"Brian has forged the Insurance Institute into a visible advocate for highway safety, and highway safety has improved because of his work."

Ralph Nader, Consumer Advocate
"Over the many years that Brian O'Neill headed the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, he raised the auto safety responsibilities of the insurance industry to new levels and showed the insurance companies that loss prevention (i.e. the prevention of deaths, injuries and motor vehicle property damage) can be good business. Consumers have learned more about the inadequate safety of cars by make and model including their costly and flimsy bumpers because of the work of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety under Brian O'Neill."
