An Israeli airstrike targeting a group of militants in the northern Gaza Strip killed two Palestinians and wounded seven others Thursday, Palestinian witnesses and health officials said.
The airstrike appeared aimed at a group of three militants from the militant Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, part of President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement, gathered near the town of Jebaliya, according to witnesses. Ambulances and security rushed to the scene.
Also on Thursday, a Palestinian stabbed an Israeli to death at a military checkpoint in the West Bank on Thursday, Israel Radio said.
The report said the Israeli was stabbed in the neck and the attacker apprehended at the Qalandiya checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank city of Ramallah.
The attacks come against the backdrop of mounting violence following a Palestinian suicide bombing that killed five Israelis outside a shopping mall on Monday.
Since the bombing, Israel has killed three Palestinian militants in air strikes in the Gaza Strip, drawing vows of revenge.
