The deal
Back-to-school sales need not be the death knell for summer vacations. In fact, some of the best deals of the season can be found in September. And, great news for the fashionably late among us — many summer-saver packages are still valid until October. We uncovered vacation-worthy hotel offers in the fabulous cities of Baltimore, Nashville and New Orleans. Rates as low as $69 per night and bank-account-friendly one-free-night promos are perfect excuses for keeping summer alive as long as possible.

Third night free at Sheraton Nashville
How about a weekend in Nashville? Spend your time antiquing, seeing live music and seeking out some of the best biscuits in the country. Through September 28 guests of the Sheraton Nashville Downtown can receive a night absolutely free of charge. Arrive Thursday, Friday or Saturday, pay for two nights, and the third is on the house. Rates start at only $159 a night. The smoke-free, 474-room property, located within the heart of the city’s lively historic area known as the District, is steps away from shops, restaurants and clubs.

New Orleans’ Hotel St. Pierre from $69 per night
New Orleans can still be pretty steamy in September but it’s also a great time to pick up some stellar hotel rates. One hot deal is courtesy of Hotel St. Pierre. September nightly rates start as low as $69. The French Quarter hotel, a collection of 18th-century Creole cottages turned into 74 courtyard-facing rooms with 21st-century updates, is also advertising another September special. Book two nights and the third night is free, with one caveat: no free Saturday stays. Rates include a complimentary continental breakfast.

Free nights at Hampton Inn Baltimore-Camden Yards
Craving crab? Get your fix in Baltimore and pocket a hotel deal while you’re there. When you book two nights at the Hampton Inn Baltimore-Camden Yards, you’ll get a third night free. Room rates start at $189 a night. Located steps from Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the hotel is around the corner from Babe Ruth’s birthplace and close to all of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor attractions. Spacious rooms feature free high-speed internet, LCD TVs and ergonomic desk chairs. The offer is valid through December 31.

The dollars
Rates are per room, based on double occupancy. Additional taxes may apply.

The catch
School supply shopping may take a backseat to vacation planning.
