A minor earthquake rattled the San Francisco Bay area on Friday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the tremblor at a 4.0-magnitude.

The quake hit just after 9 p.m. and could be felt throughout the region.

Its epicenter was near Alamo, Calif., about 28 miles east of San Francisco.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in Alamo or surrounding communities, said Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee.

Fans at the San Francisco Giants' waterfront ballpark felt the jolt as the team played the Pittsburgh Pirates but the game was not interrupted.

During the 1989 World Series between the Giants and Oakland Athletics, a 6.9 earthquake shook the area before Game 3 and delayed the rest of the Series.
