MELVILLE, N.Y., Nov. 4, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., won $1.0 million in equipment orders to support Vipersat-powered dynamic Single Carrier per Channel ("dSCPC") satellite networks that provide high-speed IP connections on demand. The networks are located in multiple countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region, further evidence of Comtech's strong position in communications on-the-move and emergency services platforms. Vipersat-powered networks are in place throughout Asia-Pacific to provide high-speed IP emergency services communications for governments and utility companies in preparation for natural disasters or terrestrial failures.

The orders specified a range of Comtech EF Data's bandwidth-efficient satellite modems, including the SLM-5650A, the CDM-570L, the CDD-564 and the CDM-562L models. The modems use technologically advanced components, innovative designs and application software for superior performance and features. Also included in the orders was the powerful network management tool, Vipersat Management System ("VMS"). The VMS provides dSCPC bandwidth management of the space segment. When integrated with the modems, the dSCPC technology provides the mechanism to automatically establish the high-speed IP SCPC carrier when a remote in the network has an application to transport over the satellite link.

"These customers selected Vipersat-powered networks based on the benefits that our combined solution can deliver – minimized operating expenses, increased efficiency, flexibility and scalability," commented Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp.
