Prosecutors in Bulgaria have indicted a former labor minister for alleged embezzlement and abuse of power during her tenure in the previous government.
According to Friday's indictment, lawmaker Emilia Maslarova approved a project to renovate a social services center that was overpriced by euro5.5 million ($7.7 million), which was allegedly embezzled using fake invoices. Five others have also been indicted.
Maslarova, who served as labor minister in 2005-2009, was formally charged with embezzlement in February and released on euro25,500 ($35,000) bail.
Bulgaria's previous Socialist-led government has been hit by a series of corruption scandals, including allegations against former Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev.
