A diabetic man in southwestern Oregon awoke on Wednesday to find his dog had eaten part of his foot, police said.

The 61-year-old man has no feeling in his foot so did not feel the dog eating part of his right foot, according to a report by police in Roseburg, a town about 164 miles south of Portland.

The report noted that the man called police at about 3 a.m. local time believing that he was missing three toes and part of his foot, and that officers arriving at the scene "confirmed the story."

The victim was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.

Police said they secured the man's small tan canine in a kennel in the kitchen area.
