Vandals cut the brake lines on a school bus, but the damage was discovered before students left for a field trip.

The vandalism also included swastikas, “KKK” and “666” etched on the exterior of the bus, which is owned by a central Texas religious school. One juvenile boy was arrested, and two others were sought, police said Monday.

The bus was preparing to leave Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church for a field trip April 26 when mechanical alarms went off. An inspection showed hoses were cut under the hood, apparently the night before.

“Somebody tried to kill us,” student Peter Navarro said.

Police said evidence from a security camera video led to the arrest Friday of one boy on a charge of criminal mischief.

“Whoever did this couldn’t possibly have considered the severe consequences that could have occurred,” the school’s bus driver, Jeremiah O’Fihelly, said.
