A sneaky, mobile theft-recovery app that snaps a photo of anyone who attempts to unlock it may be the only clue as to how an iPhone went missing from an English nightclub.

After a Brighton woman's phone went missing, the app she had previously installed onto her phone emailed her the photo of a brunette woman, along with the phone's GPS coordinates. The woman was dressed in winter clothes and appears to be sitting inside of a vehicle with "quite a large sunroof," the Press Association reported.

"We don't know that the woman is the person who stole the camera , but she obviously has had some connection with it in the meantime, and I'd like to speak to her about it," police said.

Some media outlets speculate that the app is iGotYa, which can only be installed onto a jailbroken device, Sophos Labs' Naked Security blog said.

Users who don't want to jailbreak their iPhones still have access to many anti-theft features, including the Find My iPhone app, which will allow the owner to remotely track, lock and wipe their device from another iPhone or computer.
