Move over “Texts from Hillary”: Jay-Z and President Obama actually do text with one another.

Move over “Texts from Hillary.” Jay-Z and President Obama actually do text with one another, according to the rapper.

While promoting his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, Hova mentioned he messages with the president on occasion.

“I’ve spoken to him on the phone and had texts from Obama. Of course,” Jay-Z said in an interview with the radio station Hot97. Perhaps realizing that comment might sound arrogant, he quickly added, “Not ‘of course’…You gotta stop yourself sometimes. “ He started again, more humbly: “Yes, that’s happened and it’s amazing.”

Jay-Z described the president as “a regular guy as well” who is “very heavy into sports.”

“I don’t know if this is breaching national security,” Jay-Z said. “But when he was getting elected the second time, he was like, ‘Hey, you know, fourth quarter, just give me the ball,’ I said, ‘word.’”

Jay-Z previously referred to texting with Obama in his lyrics to “On To The Next One.” He rapped, “Had her out in Bed-Stuy, chillin’ on the steps/Drinkin’ quarter waters, I gotta be the best/ M.J. at Summer Jam, Obama on the text/Y’all should be afraid of what I’m gonna do next, hold up.”

The president has called himself a Jay-Z fan, although after the rapper’s controversial trip to Cuba, Obama joked that he had “99 problems and now Jay-Z is one.”

Jay-Z’s wife, Beyoncé, sang the National Anthem at the president’s second inauguration and has been involved with first lady Michele Obama’s Let’s Move fitness campaign geared toward children.
