The NBA is ushering in the Year of the Monkey with a video featuring three of its most prominent stars.
The video shows Steph Curry, Jeremy Lin, and James Harden sitting around a table with a meal with a Chinese family and the Houston Rockets’ mascot to celebrate Lunar New Year, which this year falls on Feb. 8.
In the video, Harden "stirs the pot" — a signature victory move for the Houston Rockets shooting guard — with a pair of chopsticks. Lin removes a lion head mask to reveal his spiky hair. Curry lifts up his drink and says, "Cheers!" in Chinese.
Lin, who plays for the Charlotte Hornets, is the first American-born NBA player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent.
The NBA will also celebrate the Lunar New Year off-screen: the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, and Washington Wizards will host area events for the occasion and wear uniforms featuring their teams’ names in Chinese.
The NBA's video will air across all NBA China networks and digital partners’ platforms until February 22. This year will also mark the first time all 30 NBA teams are showcased in China, as 51 games will be broadcast or streamed throughout the country.
