A former Alabama man accused of kidnapping his son 13 years ago was indicted on 32 counts in Ohio, prosecutors announced.

Bobby Hernandez, 53, was indicted on six counts of kidnapping, four counts of interference with custody, 11 counts of interfering with custody and other forgery charges for allegedly taking his 5-year-old son from Alabama in 2002, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty said.

“Mr. Hernandez selfishly deprived this child of his mother, and the mother her child. They lost any chance to bond, nurture and enjoy the benefits of this vital relationship,” McGinty said in a statement.

"This indictment should send a strong message to anyone considering stealing their child," he said.

The alleged abduction was discovered after Hernandez’ son, Julian, was looking to apply to colleges and encountered problems verifying his Social Security number, officials have said.

The FBI said it received a tip on Oct. 30 that a missing person from Alabama might be living in the area, it confirmed the identity and Bobby Hernandez was arrested.

Hernandez is being held in lieu of $255,000 bail, according to court records. Arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 1.
