Four Passengers Die as Car Plunges into NYC Creek

Only the driver escaped alive after a car went into a creek in Queens, police said.

Authorities say four people have died after being retrieved from a car submerged in a creek in Queens Friday night.

The FDNY says emergency responders were called to the area of 37th Street and 19th Avenue in Astoria, by the Steinway Creek, for a report of a car in the water.

Five people were removed from the water and taken to local hospitals, police said.

Four of the victims were taken to Elmhurst Hospital, and three were pronounced dead, according to police. A fourth person, identified as the driver of the vehicle, has minor injuries.

A fifth victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead.

The victims have not been identified. It's not clear how the vehicle got in the water.
