It wasn't the crash itself which surprised German motorcyclist Rainer Ziegler — but rather how after he flew through a car's rear window into the backseat, the driver kept going.

German police said they were searching for the driver of a "small, red car with the broken window" following the unusual accident at approximately 100 mph on the A65 superhighway.

Ziegler — who was unharmed in the crash — told German radio station SWR3 that after impact the driver continued on his way. The 54-year-old motorcyclist said he had to ask the driver to stop and let him out.

The unidentified driver has not contacted authorities, German police told NBC News.

"Despite intensive searches with the help of social media and press releases, we have so far been unable to locate the driver of the red vehicle,” police official Martin Jarkiewicz said. “This was clearly a spectacular accident and I cannot remember working on a similar case before.”
