One of the top lines from last night's debate was Carly Fiorina's jab at Donald Trump that she's met Vladimir Putin "not in a green room for a show, but in a private meeting."
In fact, a "green room" was exactly how Fiorina described her meeting with Putin in her Sept. 2015 sit-down with Jimmy Fallon.
"I met him [Putin] in Beijing. We were in sort of a green room setting — each of us were giving a speech at a major economic conference," she told Fallon.
Fiorina's line on Putin last night was response in Trump's own eyebrow-raising remark: "If Putin wants to go in [to Syria], and I got to know him very well because we were both on 60 Minutes, we were stablemates, and we did very well that night." As it turns out, both Trump and Putin were in the same episode of "60 Minutes" but never appeared together.
Fiorina's spokeswoman, Anna Epstein, clarified: "Carly met Putin for 45 minutes before an APEC conference in 2001. This was a scheduled meeting in a green room, not bumping into someone before a show."
