One of the 12-year-old girls in the "Slender Man" stabbing case has been found mentally incompetent by a doctor and a judge has ordered more testing and a hearing. The disclosure came as both suspects appeared Wednesday in a Wisconsin courtroom, wearing shackles and blue jail jumpsuits as their parents looked on somberly. The preteens are accused of repeatedly stabbing a 12-year-old girl in a quest to please a spooky fictional online character called Slender Man.

The victim was stabbed 19 times in a Waukesha park, and the knife barely missed her heart. The suspects' lawyers are hoping to get the case transferred to juvenile court. During the hearing, neither girl made eye contact with relatives sitting in the spectator seats. The parents of one girl wept when she was brought into the courtroom.
