If you've been fantasizing about using your iPad as an oversized phone, then all your dreams are about to come true — thanks to a $20 app.
Engadget reports the PhoneIt-iPad app will allow anyone to turn his or her 3G-enabled iPad into the equivalent of a large iPhone. The only catches are that your device needs to be jailbroken — unlocked in a way which allows it to run unauthorized software — and that you need to fork over twenty bucks.
Based on the demo video below, it looks like the app simply provides an iPad with the standard Messages and Phone apps which are on each and every iPhone. Now, while this sounds pretty darn great initially, we can't really imagine that it would be all that useful in practice.
Perhaps it'd be convenient to tap out a few quick text messages on your iPad, but phone calls? Your choices are to look strange with an iPad held to your ear or to awkwardly fuss around with a Bluetooth earpiece.
If you don't mind all that though, then you can go purchase the PhoneIt-iPad app through the Cydia App Store.
