Tracking your blood glucose level can be a tedious chore, but a little iPhone accessory — and its companion app — might make the process a bit simpler.

The accessory is called the Smart GlucoMeter and it's made by a company called iHealth. It consists of a little dongle which accepts test strips.

When paired with its companion app — which will be available for free through the Apple App Store — the Smart GlucoMeter is able to process, track, and chart blood glucose readings. It will even show you 7-day, 14-day, and 30-day averages, create simple charts, and provide reminders to help you remember when you should take insulin or medication.

The iHealth Smart GlucoMeter should hit stores in the second quarter of 2012 — assuming that the FDA approves it. No word on how much it will cost just yet.
