A corporate jet with nine people on board developed a landing gear problem Wednesday and made an emergency landing.

Lambert Airport spokeswoman Sandy Singer said the jet took off around 8 a.m. from Spirit Airport in Chesterfield, Mo., a St. Louis suburb. She didn’t know whose jet it was.

The front landing gear would not retract, said Dave Nichols of the Monarch Fire District.

During a visual inspection, the nose gear appeared to be turned to the left, Nichols said. The plane flew for more than two hours burning fuel before preparing for the emergency landing.

“Everyone is fully trained, fully ready and standing by,” Singer said before the plane touched down safely.

Late Tuesday in Boston, a jetliner with a landing gear problem also landed safely at Logan International after circling the airport for about two hours. Midwest Airlines Flight 210 had 86 passengers and four crew members on board.

Carol Skornicka, a spokeswoman for Milwaukee-based Midwest, said the pilot noticed a problem with the right landing gear shortly after takeoff. The plane was bound for Milwaukee.

And in September, a JetBlue plane landed safely in Los Angeles amid smoke and sparks. That aircraft’s front wheels had become stuck in a sideways position.
