Military-services contractor Halliburton Co. on Thursday said its engineering-services unit, KBR, was part of a consortium that won a 8-billion-pound ($14 billion, euro11.4 billion), contract to upgrade and service British Army garrisons in the United Kingdom.

The contract includes a 35-year deal to provide services to barracks in Aldershot and around Salisbury Plain area, and a nine-year construction pact to refurbish and upgrade the housing and working buildings on those bases. Around 18,000 military and civilians will benefit from the changes, according to a Halliburton press release.

The contract was awarded by the British Ministry of Defence to Aspire Defence, a venture between KBR and Britain's Mowlem PLC.

In addition to the package of services to be delivered over 35 years, the project includes a 1.2 billion pounds ($2 billion) construction program that will improve soldiers single living, technical and administrative accommodation, along with leisure and recreational facilities, the release said.

Halliburton is one of the world's leading providers of products and services to the petroleum and energy industries.
