A suicide attacker blew himself up at a hospital opening ceremony in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, wounding at least two NATO soldiers and a health worker, the provincial governor said.

Security forces had blocked the attacker from approaching a crowd of about 150 people who had gathered for the ceremony in Khost city. He was shot in the leg before he detonated his bomb, said Gov. Arsalah Jamal.

Two American soldiers and an Afghan health worker were wounded, Jamal said.

Sgt. 1st Class Dean Welch, a NATO spokesman, said a number of NATO troops were wounded in the blast, but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known. He did not give their nationalities.
