Martha's Vineyard
Just south of Cape Cod (about 45 minutes by ferry), Martha's Vineyard has historic charm and presidential fans aplenty—as well as beaches, nature reserves, and, yes, those T-shirts from the famed Black Dog Tavern. Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Edgartown, one of six towns on the 100-mile-long island, opens for the season on April 18 and is kicking things off with some lodging packages.

The Arbor Day Weekend package includes accommodations in a studio room that has a kitchenette and can comfortably sleep two adults and a small child, as well as breakfast daily, a special afternoon "green tea party" with drinks and organic homemade baked goods from Winnetu's Lure restaurant, and kid-friendly activities related to Arbor Day and the resort's second annual tree planting. Each child will receive his or her own sapling to plant and will build a birdhouse as a keepsake. Rides on vintage fire trucks, tennis, and games on a life-size outdoor chessboard are among other amusements, and neighboring Katama Farm Institute is open to Winnetu guests for free, as always. Rates start at $169 per room per night, based on a three-night stay (which would total $507).
