An expelled student entered a Christian high school during chapel and put a gun to the pastor's head before he was tackled and arrested, a witness said Tuesday.

Regina Police Service spokeswoman Lara Guzik Rostad said police received an emergency call Tuesday morning and arrested a suspect shortly after. She said they recovered a firearm.

The school in the central Canadian city was evacuated. Guzik Rostad couldn't confirm reports the youth held people hostage.

Derek DeBolt, a student, told CBC television that many students were in chapel in the school gym when an expelled student entered and put what looked like a fake gun in the pastor's face. Police later confirmed the gun was real.

DeBolt said the suspect gave the pastor something to read, and a faculty member and police later tackled the suspect.

"I was just stunned. All the people were just stunned," DeBolt said.

Police said there are no reports of any injuries to staff, students or the suspect.

Luther College has both a high school campus and university campus.

The arrest came on the same day as a deadly school shooting in Finland. In that case, a masked gunman killed 10 people at a trade school and burned some of their bodies before shooting himself in the head.
