A mother and her infant son have died after floodwaters swept their vehicle off a rural road in Alabama.
Alabama state troopers identified the victims as 27-year-old Crystal Vaughn of Gordo and her 18-month-old son.
The accident happened in western Alabama on Tuesday night as heavy rain caused flooding across the South.
Investigators said Vaughn was driving behind a relative's car on a rural road when a culvert burst and swept her vehicle downstream.
Troopers said the relative's car was also submerged but that both occupants managed to escape.
Drenching rains on Monday and Tuesday prompted a series of flash flood warnings in several Alabama counties.
