SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EPOD Solar Inc. (OTCBB:EPDSE), announced today that Green PolyurethaneTM, licensed to its wholly owned subsidiary, Nanotech Industries International Inc. (d/b/a Hybrid Coating Technologies "HCT"), received second place behind BASF at this year's Polyurethane Innovation Award competition. HCT's Green PolyurethaneTM are the world's first ever polyurethane coatings and paint developed without the use of any toxic isocyanates throughout the entire production process.

The competition is hosted by the Center for Polyurethane Industry (CPI), which is part of the American Chemistry Council. This year's CPI conference focused on advances in polyurethane and the economic benefits of "going green." The conference attracted more than 750 scientists, engineers, manufacturers and business leaders from around the world. More than 700 entries were evaluated for the award and three finalists, including Green PolyurethaneTM, were selected by a panel of judges representing a cross-section of leaders from the polyurethane industry, academia and media. Finalists gave brief presentations at the opening session of the conference and attendees then voted for those they believed showed the most innovative use of polyurethanes.

"The Polyurethane Innovation Award shines a well-deserved spotlight on the companies and individuals that have brought innovative new solutions to the marketplace," said Steve Russell, vice president, Plastics Division, American Chemistry Council.

"We are very excited to be recognized by the prestigious American Chemistry Council and to place second behind BASF at the CPI polyurethane innovation competition," said Joseph Kristul, the CEO and President of HCT. This is an important validation of Green Polyurethane's potential to play a major role in the industry's efforts to create high quality products, which are environmentally friendly, and make good economic sense.

About Nanotech Industries International

Nanotech Industries International d/b/a "Hybrid Coating Technologies" (HCT) is a San Francisco-based innovator focused on improving the quality and safety of coatings and paint for industrial and commercial customers in North America. We are the exclusive licensee of Green Polyurethane™ coatings and paint – the world's first-ever patent protected polyurethane-based coatings and paint products which eliminate toxic isocyanates from the entire production process.

The Problem of Conventional Coatings/Paint and Isocyanates

Conventional polyurethane (PU) paint and coatings have many disadvantages: they are porous, maintain poor hydrolytic stability and only moderate permeability. This makes the material highly vulnerable to environmental degradation and ultimately leads to their chemical decomposition, especially when in contact with water. Even worse, the manufacture of conventional polyurethane involves highly toxic components such as isocyanates, which can cause irritation of skin and mucous membranes, chest tightness, difficult breathing, upset stomach, fevers and prolonged exposure has been known to cause severe asthma and even death.

The Green Polyurethane™ Solution

Global coatings and paint companies, suppliers and consumers are seeking green solutions that make business sense. However, "green" has often meant fewer features, higher cost or lower quality. Green Polyurethane™ (also referred to as "HNIPU" - hybrid non-isocyanate polyurethane) provides the world's first sound solution to the environmental and health hazards of isocyanates in polyurethane, costs up to 20% less to produce and apply, and presents significant improvements to the properties of conventional polyurethane.
