Partnership Demonstrates The Next Generation In Home Network Performance

Today, service providers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) face the challenge of how to expand upon their current MoCA 1.1 services and equipment. Utilizing Entropic's MoCA 2.0 solution and Cavium's high performance multi-service routing technology, OEMs can develop the most advanced multimedia networking platforms to address next generation service provider performance requirements.

Both leaders in their fields, Entropic and Cavium have deployed solutions that can "future-proof" the broadband home entertainment network of today and tomorrow. Working together over multiple generations to align product roadmaps, the partnership has yielded an efficient MoCA 2.0-enabled reference platform to address service provider demands for more bandwidth and processing power.

"The design with Entropic on the industry's first MoCA 2.0 solution demonstrates how two industry leaders can bring unparalleled performance and value to our OEM partners for next generation home entertainment networking applications," said Manoj Gujral, Executive VP and GM, Broadband Consumer Division at Cavium Networks. "Together, we are creating a vision of the future for what can be accomplished by expanding the capabilities of service provider MoCA networks."

The ECB reference design combines Entropic's industry first complete end-to-end MoCA 2.0 silicon and software with Cavium's highly integrated network SoC. Entropic's MoCA 2.0 solution consists of a 40nm baseband MAC/PHY SoC along with an RF transceiver plus analog front-end IC that provides 400 Mbps of aggregate net MAC throughput over 16 nodes and 500 Mbps of net MAC throughput for two node Turbo mode – with full backward interoperability to MoCA 1.1 devices. Cavium's ECONA CNS3xxx family of ARM-based, energy efficient processors offer multi-core processors, a rich set of integrated hardware accelerators and a range of I/Os for glueless voice, video and data connectivity. Sophisticated power management techniques enable super low-power operation, starting at less than 1 watt. The ECONA™ family of ARM processors delivers a wide variety of highly integrated embedded SoC options at industry leading cost and performance per watt. The ECB also use a low cost discrete component diplexer filter, includes four gigabit Ethernet ports and comes with configuration/diagnostic software.

"High performance network processing is key in demonstrating the performance and features of our MoCA 2.0 solution," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development, Entropic Communications. "By working with Cavium on our first MoCA 2.0 ECB we can be sure we put our best foot forward and demonstrate to operators and OEMs the full potential of a MoCA 2.0 network."

Live Demonstration at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show

Entropic Communications will be demonstrating, by appointment only, the Cavium Networks based MoCA 2.0 ECB at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, N.V. (January 6th – 9th), booth #36212.
