ROCKVILLE, Md., May 12, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that it has been awarded a contract by Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) to deliver a supervisory control and data acquisition system, leak detection, training, off-line model, energy optimization solution and a telecommunications system for CPC's crude oil pipeline. Telvent´s advanced monitoring and control system and telecommunications network will enable CPC to optimize performance of CPC's expanding crude oil transportation network. Telvent solutions will provide state-of-the-art functionality, support increased capacity and maximize return on investment in what has become the largest operating investment project in Russia involving foreign participation. The budget for the overall Telvent project is $127 million US dollars.

CPC has relied on Telvent's automated information management technology for ten years for monitoring and control of its 1,510-km network connecting oil fields in Western Kazakhstan with its marine terminal in Novorossiysk, Russia. With plans for new pump stations, storage facilities and an additional marine terminal loading buoy, CPC elected to upgrade to Telvent's supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, OASyS DNA, which is intricately integrated with its proven simulation technology, SimSuite. The system will have one of the largest SCADA databases with the capability to handle up to 750,000 database points in real time. It will rely on robust, redundant and upgraded and expanded telecommunications technology from Telvent which provides zero-downtime information and availability and control capability across the pipeline network. This comprehensive solution will support CPC's network planning and security, operations training and efforts towards energy management and optimization. The project will provide world-class business responsiveness and help CPC attain its targeted capacity of 67 million tons of crude oil per year.

According to Telvent's CEO Ignacio Gonzalez, "We're always pleased when a long-time customer chooses to continue to rely on Telvent solutions and expertise. The advanced technology and comprehensive solution Caspian Pipeline Consortium is implementing will provide the kind of operational efficiency and reliability that is needed to succeed in today's competitive business environment."

This project adds to Telvent's portfolio of solutions deployed worldwide to optimize management of critical infrastructure, enhance security and increase responsiveness of facilities and assets. CPC is the third major European contract win for Telvent in recent months. In March, the company announced its successful bid to control gas transmission for GRTgaz in France, and recently was also awarded a project to provide German-based Bunde Etzel Pipeline with a complete IT infrastructure. These recent wins, along with many other large-scale active projects in countries like Greece, Italy and Turkey, have earned Telvent a leading position in the European energy industry.
