Telvent Selected to Implement Distributed Control System for Solar Thermal Power Plant in Abu Dhabi

ROCKVILLE, Md., May 27, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that it has been selected to design, install and manage the distributed control system (DCS) for Shams Power Company's Shams-1 solar thermal power plant in MadinatZayed, 75 miles (120 kilometers) southwest of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. This joint venture of Masdar (60%), Total (20%) and Abengoa (20%) selected Telvent's solution to control and operate one of the world's largest concentrated solar power projects and the first of its kind in the Middle East. With this Telvent solution, Shams Power Company's plant operators will have the ability to control and supervise all solar plant processes in accordance with the most current technology, allowing it to manage the position of the solar power trough collectors to efficiently capture the sun's energy over the entire course of the day, anticipating weather conditions and improving the power block output.
