LASD Investigates Abuse Claims Tied to Actor Stephen Collins

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials confirmed that they are now investigating the child molestation allegation connected to Stephen Collins.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials confirmed Wednesday that they are now investigating the Los Angeles-area child molestation allegation connected to "7th Heaven" actor Stephen Collins.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit are working the case and also working with detectives from the New York Police Department.

Los Angeles Police investigators originally looked at the case, but could not find a “substantiated victim.” The alleged crime took place in the Sheriff’s jurisdiction, officials told NBC News.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau, said they were investigating Collins over a 1983 allegation of indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child.

The allegation was first reported to the LAPD on October 9, 2014, and was forwarded to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for investigation. The victim, who was 13 years old at the time of the incident, reported the event that occurred in West Hollywood.
