Carnival cruise ship crew member airlifted after falling

A Carnival Cruise Lines crew member was airlifted from a cruise ship to a New Orleans hospital after she fell and hit her head on deck, the Coast Guard said in a news release Saturday.

According to the statement, a Coast Guard helicopter picked up the 34-year-old Indonesian woman around 11:20 a.m. from the Carnival Conquest, located 172 miles southeast of New Orleans.

"The helicopter crew arrived on scene at 11:20 a.m., safely hoisted the patient and flew her to Interim LSU Public Hospital for further medical treatment," the statement read. "She was listed in stable condition."

A Carnival spokeswoman said the ship was on the last leg of a seven-day Caribbean cruise that departed from New Orleans on Sunday.

"The medical evacuation was completed and the ship continued sailing to New Orleans, where it is expected to arrive tomorrow as scheduled," spokeswoman Joyce Oliva said in a statement.

The woman's name was not released.
