An ex-con accused of robbing a casino at gunpoint and then blowing the cash on prostitutes refused to open his eyes or speak during a court appearance after he was hauled in wearing an anti-spit mask and chains. Scott Carmitchel, 34, had refused to attend the Wednesday morning arraignment in Las Vegas Justice Court, so the judge ordered him brought in by force, NBC affiliate KSNV reported. Carmitchel was wheeled in but would not cooperate or participate in the proceedings. He is due in federal court on Thursday.

The Kansas man is accused of robbing a cashier at the Bellagio of $43,500. Police say he later used some of the money — still bound with the casino's wrappers — to pay prostitutes at another hotel. He allegedly spent $10,000 on a shopping spree on the Las Vegas Strip, buying $1,800 Louis Vuitton shoes and an $800 belt. Carmitchel — who has a criminal record stretching back to 1998 and was on parole — told cops that he found the money in a bag in a parking lot.
