Former President Jimmy Carter had a small mass removed from his liver on Monday, his presidential center said.

The Carter Center described the surgery as elective and said the ex-president, 90, was expected to make a full recovery.

Carter was in Austin, Texas, on Saturday to sign copies of his new book, "A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety."

He cut short a trip to Guyana in May because he was feeling unwell.
