Two college softball players remain hospitalized three days after a highway collision in Oklahoma that killed four of their teammates. One of the athletes, Rachel Hitt, was visited Monday by former members of the North Central Texas College softball squad as her family expressed condolences to the relatives of those who did not survive the horrific crash. "Words cannot express the heartache we feel for you," the 19-year-old's parents said in a statement. "Our hearts are overwhelmed with grief and not being able to be with you during this time is difficult."
"To our family and friends, your depth of love and support sustains us as we care for our daughter and begin the healing process."
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Ronnie Hampton said investigators were still trying to determine why a tractor-trailer crossed a wide median and slammed into the team bus Friday night. The truck driver told police something in the cab of the truck distracted him. "The driver's statement is one piece in that puzzle of 100 pieces," Hampton told reporters. "We will compare his statement with the other 99 pieces of evidence."
