Trump's Long History of Tweet-Shaming on Taxes

He's made so many past statements on Twitter alone that a new hashtag has been created in the wake of the Times story: #lasttimetrumppaidtaxes

Donald Trump's campaign says that the Republican presidential candidate knows "far better than anyone" the intricacies of the tax code.

That statement is in response to a bombshell report by the New York Times that obtained a portion of Trump's tax returns from 1995, which appeared to show a nearly $916 million loss so large that Trump could have legally paid no federal income tax for up to 18 years.

"Mr. Trump knows the tax code far better than anyone who has ever run for President and he is the only one that knows how to fix it," the campaign said in a statement.

Trump has also been a major critic of taxpayers and taxes in general. In the wake of the Times story, the Twitter hashtag #lasttimetrumppaidtaxes shot to the top of trending topics.
