An Andean baby condor chick named Raiman Noe nuzzles up to a latex puppet that is a surrogate adult condor bird at the Buenos Aires zoo on Dec. 5. The puppet is designed to prevent the baby bird from becoming attached to humans. Chicks bred this way are released to their natural environment within three years, according to a press release from the zoo. The 13-day-old chick weighed 196 grams when it was born.

A baby loggerhead sea turtle crawls to the sea after being released by members of the Brazilian Sea Turtle National Conservation Program at the Costa do Sauipe resort in Sao Joao da Mata, Brazil, on Dec. 5. Founded in 1980, the Tamar project works on the protection, research and management of the sea turtles in Brazil. Over the past 33 years, the project has protected 15,000,000 sea turtle hatchlings, the organization said.

Big kiss
